KCNA Decries Japan's Opinion Poll over Tok Islets
|
|
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Japanese government recently fed the public with the results of national opinion poll to the effect that the majority of those polled contended that Tok islets are territories belonging to Japan. Japan, a country responsible for conflicts with several countries over understanding of history and territorial disputes, again laid claims to the islets that lie in waters off the eastern coast of Korea. This unpardonable territorial ambition has sparked off international criticism. Tokyo's territorial claim can never be overlooked as the special opinion poll was conducted by the planning and mediation office for territory and sovereignty under the Cabinet Secretariat to be reflected in the future policies. Japan, which is at odds with some neighboring countries over issues of territory and history, has taken particularly brazen-faced and arrogant attitude to the issue of Tok Islets, part of the inviolable territory of Korea. So vaulting is Japan's ambition to make the islets, a huge natural resource pool, its own to use them as a bridgehead for military advance into the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia. Tok Islets have been recognized as part of the inalienable territory of Korea from the ancient times and this is grounded on historical facts and law. The Japanese reactionaries, however, conducted the special opinion poll to hedge upon the issue, a height of insanity. Can the absurd opinion poll in deception of the people change the main point of the territorial issue? Never has there been a time in the past when Tok Islets belonged to Japan. But considering the islets important part in the whole chain of realizing their overseas aggression the Japanese reactionaries are making desperate efforts to this end. They are distorting history and trying to make it appear that Tok Islets are land usurped by Korea, misleading the public opinion and abetting the seizure of the islets among the Japanese. What should not be overlooked is that the loud claim to the islets has been made on the crest of the trend in Japan that is increasingly lurching to the right. Japan's territorial claim cannot but be viewed as a key process in realizing its criminal strategy for reinvasion and its policy for war as it is now looking to revise the pacifist constitution. Japan is not going to give up the islets for their geopolitical advantages. What Japan covets as the emerging hotbed of aggression and war is not just Asia but the vast world. Japan's misguided territorial ambition will naturally disturb stability in the Korean Peninsula and the region. It is the 21st century when territorial sovereignty has been taken as an acute political issue related to the sovereignty of nations. Japan's ambition will lead it to final international isolation and ruin. |
