Rodong Sinmun Calls for Replacing Armistice by Lasting Peace
|

Pyongyang, August 16 (KCNA) -- It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to promote peace and security in Northeast Asia including the Korean Peninsula and other parts in the world, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in an article. The article goes on: A new war didn't break out and peace has been preserved on the peninsula under so tense situation entirely thanks to the DPRK, which has consistently pursued a peace-loving policy. The Korean people love peace more than any others and the DPRK is a peace-loving state which regards it as the main tenet of its foreign policy to preserve peace. Its socialist policy is peace-loving in its nature. The building of a thriving socialist nation stepped up by the Korean people requires a peaceful environment. The DPRK has made consistent efforts to turn the armistice on the peninsula into lasting peace. However, it failed to settle on the peninsula despite the DPRK's sincere efforts. This is attributable to the dishonest attitude of Washington toward the just and aboveboard proposal of the DPRK. Entering the new century Washington turned its face away from the DPRK's proposal calling on the countries concerned with the Armistice Agreement (AA) to push ahead with the issue of declaring the termination of war and its offer to start talks for replacing the AA with a peace treaty as soon as possible in the year marking the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean war, etc. The former took such persistent stand of turning down all the peace proposals and initiatives of the latter because the former lacked the will to turn truce into lasting peace. Had the U.S. accepted any of those proposals of the DPRK, lasting peace would have already settled on the peninsula. Stronger will be the stand and will of the DPRK to preserve stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula and contribute to defending world peace. |
