Pyongyang, August 16 (KCNA) -- Sports enthusiasm is running higher among the people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The sultry days are going on, but the park is bustling with people, said Ri Man Gil, head of the Management Office of the Rungna People's Sports Park.

Encouraged by the successes gained by DPRK athletes in various international tournaments, an increasing number of people are getting interested in sports activities.

Some days ago, a swimming contest was held at the swimming pool of the Changgwang Health Complex, attended by officials of the commissions, ministries and national institutions with five men and one woman from each team.

Sports matches covering different events took place among employees at units on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War (July 27) and the anniversary of Korea's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule (August 15).

Sports activities have gained momentum with the approach of the Youth Day (August 28).

Sports matches held in a vigorous way have given impetus to developing sports techniques among the local people.

Sports parks built in cities of the country are crowded with people on holidays.

Conspicuous are volleyball games held at neighborhood units involving even housewives.

The ever-growing sports enthusiasm has led the people to enjoy an optimistic life at all times.
