S. Korean Broadcasting Censures Japan's Moves to Distort Korea's Symbolic Song

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- The Japanese imperialists distorted even "Arirang", a song well known as the symbol of the Korean nation, to exterminate the nation, according to KBS of south Korea on August 14. The broadcasting said Japan systematically distorted the lyrics of the song to use it as a means for creating the atmosphere for annexation even before the fabrication of the "Ulsa Five-Point Treaty". The lyrics of the song carried by a photo album released by a Japanese institution in 1905 said that Koreans should agree on annexation as even such a big country as Russia failed in the war. A book written earlier by a Japanese man, Kenjo Okita, also seriously distorted the song. This was aimed to implant inferiority and the sense of defeat in the minds of the Koreans and dampen their resistance against the Japanese imperialists, the broadcasting added. It stressed that the distortion of the song with the wide use of intellectuals points to the intensity of Japan's bid to exterminate the Korean nation. |
