DPRK Has Exceptionally Heavy Rainfalls in Summer

Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea had much precipitation in the 48-day rainy season this year. The season started on July 2, two days earlier than the average, and ended on August 18, eight days earlier than the average. In the period heavy rainfalls hit most parts of the country, particularly the central part including North and South Phyongan provinces. Unsan County observed 1,903 mm of rainfall between July 8 and 23, 466 mm for 18 hours on July 20. The country's average precipitation was 800 mm, the highest ever in the history of the meteorological observation. The past highest precipitation was observed in Juche 53 (1964), with record of 721 mm rainfall. |
