General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division of the Korean People's Army (KPA) on August 25, Juche 49 (1960) as the start of his Songun guidance.

He gave an important instruction that the KPA should train all its soldiers to be persons of ideology and faith, fully prepared in politico-ideological and military technical aspects, under the slogan of "Let us defend with our very lives the Party Central Committee headed by the respected Comrade Kim Il Sung!"

Since then he had made energetic efforts to building up the revolutionary armed forces into an invincible army.

He advanced the unique army-building program for training all servicepersons to be Juche-type revolutionaries loyal to the party and the leader and conducting army-building and military activities strictly on the basis of the Juche idea in January 1975 and energetically guided the work to carry it into practice.

In those days he ceaselessly inspected military posts in the frontline area and on islets and sometimes guided military trainings aboard warships, planes and tanks, always finding himself among KPA officers and men.

When President Kim Il Sung passed away suddenly, Kim Jong Il visited the Dwarf Pine Post of the KPA, declaring his strong will to accomplish with arms the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered by the President.

He set forth the idea of giving precedence to the army over the working class for the first time in the history of the world revolutionary movement and worked heart and soul to strengthen the KPA, main force of the Korean revolution, into the invincible Paektusan army.

He inspected the Cho Islet Defence Detachment and a naval unit by a small speedboat and then visited the KPA Panmunjom Mission at dawn to implant faith in sure victory and transparent class consciousness into servicepersons. He also personally pushed his car on the road of steep cliff in Mt. Osong to visit military units.

Thanks to his distinguished and energetic guidance, the KPA turned into an army strong in ideology and faith, which is imbued with the Juche idea, the Songun idea and strictly based on the Party's system of command, and into an invincible army fully equipped with the Korean-style strategy and tactics and advanced offensive and defensive means.

Kim Jong Il's exploits for army-building will remain long with the history of the country.
