Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- South Korean people's actions became unabated in August, too, to demand probe into the truth behind the Intelligence Service's illegal interference in the 2012 "presidential election," an operation to build up public opinion in favor of the ruling party's candidate. Press conferences were held by the Emergency Situation Council to Denounce IS Interference in Presidential Election for Political Operation which consists of more than 200 civic and social organizations, the "students' movement for nullifying the 18th presidential election and resignation of President Park Geun Hye", the Unified Progressive Party, the solidarity for lifting of discrimination against disable persons and other organizations and opposition parties. The organizations and opposition parties called upon the people of different social standings to turn out in the emergency action and massive candlelight action, warning that if the chief executive evades the responsibility for the IS interference in the election, hiding herself in Chongwadae, and the "government" tries to cover up the case and violation of democracy, they will face stronger resistance of the people. 100,000-strong candlelight rallies were staged in Seoul, Pusan, Taejon, Taegu and Ulsan areas with representatives of civic and social organizations, lawmakers from opposition parties and youth and students involved. The federation of university students held a meeting near the U.S. embassy to form a grand march team for reunification and declared that it would vigorously wage an all-people signature campaign and movement for defending peace. A people's movement for issuing declarations on the situation is gaining in scope and strength. At least 110 professors of Kyunghee University took part in the movement for issuing a declaration on the situation and staged a demonstration, shouting "Probe the truth behind the IS interference in the election". 1 954 media persons, Catholic Suwon Parish, at least 600 students of Korea University and the Kwangju-South Jolla peasants' solidarity made up of peasants organizations in the areas of Kwangju and South Jolla Province said in the declaration on the situation that the "Saenuri Party" and the authorities' actions are criminal acts of stamping out democracy of society. Believers of the Christian Joint Measure Committee against IS Interference in the Election held prayers denouncing the crimes of the "Saenuri Party". The Solidarity for Democracy, People's Life, Peaceful Reunification and Sovereignty, internet paper Saram Ilbo and other broadcasting services, newspapers and organizations made public statements and articles holding that shutting one's eyes to the struggle of different people denouncing the IS interference in the election is a social crime. The participants in the candlelight rally on Aug. 23 urged the chief executive to introduce a special investigation aimed at thoroughly probing the truth about the IS illegal acts, declaring that people of all social standings would launch a one-million signature campaign. |
