Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- With the approach of the 65th birthday of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Korean people are sorely missing President Kim Il Sung, who worked heart and soul to build a unified independent and sovereign state in Korea in face of the persistent separatist moves of outside forces. Building an independent and sovereign state in Korea, which was liberated from the Japanese colonial rule in August Juche 34 (1945), came across big hurdles from the outset, due to the obstructions of the United States that occupied the southern half of Korea. In contrary to the Korean people's desire for independence, the U.S. forces began enforcing a rule of military administration in south Korea, forcibly dissolving the people's committees. With a deep insight into the U.S. attempt to permanently occupy south Korea and dominate the whole of Korea, Kim Il Sung convened a conference for founding the Central Organizing Committee of the Communist Party of North Korea in October 1945, at which he set forth a line of founding a democratic people's republic representing the nation's complete independence and sovereignty. In accordance with the line, he made big efforts to turn the northern half of Korea into a powerful base for realizing the nation's sovereignty. On the first hand, he organized the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea in February 1946 and enforced a series of democratic reforms in reliance on it. In February 1947, he developed the Provisional People's Committee into the People's Committee of North Korea. Then he proposed convening the Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Social Organizations in North and South Korea, which would call for building a genuine unified democratic government by the Korean people themselves. Upset by it, the U.S. urged the south Korean puppets to carry on the "May 10 separate elections", leading to the birth of pro-American government in south Korea. Under such circumstances, Kim Il Sung began working for founding the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a sole legitimate government for the Korean people. He convened the Conference of Leaders of Political Parties and Social Organizations of North and South Korea on June 29, 1948 and the Fifth Session of the People's Assembly of North Korea on July 9, 1948. In the reports delivered at the conference and session, he advanced a line of setting up a legislature through the all-Korea general elections without delay to enact the constitution of the DPRK, in order to build an all-Korea government. Thereupon, the general elections for founding the Supreme People's Assembly took place and the First Session of the SPA was held in Pyongyang in September 1948. In reflection of the unanimous desire of the entire Korean nation, the session elected Kim Il Sung prime minister of the DPRK Cabinet and head of the state, and he declared the birth of the DPRK as a unified independent and sovereign state for the Korean people. |
