Whether one stands for reunification or division serves as a touchstone distinguishing patriotism from treachery.

Rodong Sinmun says this in an article on Sunday. It goes on:

Patriotism generates prosperity but treachery will cause the national ruin.

The reunification of Korea will help the nation regain its original nature as a homogeneous nation and mobilize and tap the resources of the whole land of Korea and the wisdom and talents of all compatriots for the prosperity of the country and nation in a unified way, thereby opening up the broad way for building prosperous Korea. The division of Korea, on the contrary, will bisect the land of the country for an indefinite period, harm the homogeneity of the nation and disturb the unified development of the Korean nation.

The division prevents the Korean nation from using its potential power for the prosperity of the country and nation. What is more intolerable is that the human and material resources have been misused for inciting national confrontation and making preparations for a war against the DPRK due to the U.S. moves to keep its military bases in south Korea.

The national reunification will make substantial contribution to ensuring the lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The division, on the contrary, is a major factor escalating the confrontation and tension on the peninsula.

The genuine peace on the Korean Peninsula can be achieved only when all the Koreans develop the north-south relations based on the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and achieve the reconciliation, unity and reunification of the nation.

It is a mockery and deception to pay lip-service to "peace" while pursuing the confrontation and division. Division will not bring peace but lead to confrontation and war.

As the national reunification is in the interests common to the nation, all the compatriots in the north, south and abroad should turn out as one in the just and patriotic actions to promote the reconciliation, unity, reunification and prosperity of the nation with patriotism.
