The great unity of the entire Korean nation has deep roots, the article said, and went on:

President Kim Il Sung founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, the anti-Japanese national united front, in May 1936.

He convened the joint conference of representatives of political parties and public organizations in north and south of Korea in 1948 after the liberation of Korea to call upon all parties, sections and patriotic forces from all social standings in the north and the south to turn out in the struggle for independence and reunification of the country.

He put forward the three principles of national reunification in the 1970s to lay a solid foundation for national unity and reunification of the country. He made public the work "10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country" in April 1993.

His idea of great national unity was successfully carried forward by leader Kim Jong Il.

Thanks to the bold decision of Kim Jong Il, the historic north-south summit was realized and the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration which solemnly promised to solve the issue of the reunification of the country by the nation's own efforts was adopted, the first of its kind in the history of Korea since its division.

The October 4 declaration, the programme for implementing the June 15 joint declaration, was adopted to open the brighter prospect for Korea's reunification.

Korea's reunification will surely be realized under the banner of the great national unity.
