The pressure of the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the union to amend the present rules is undemocratic, the statement said.

Even an international body expressed concern over the stepped-up pressure of the authorities aimed to violate the legitimacy of the union, and recommended them to immediately halt it, it noted.

The authorities' suppression is part of the repressive campaign to quell the anti-"government" atmosphere running high due to the Intelligence Service's illegal interference in the election and political operation, it said.

It urged the "government" to stop suppression of the Teachers Union.
