Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- In North Phyongan Province, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, there is a mountainous county called Changsong. This county, located in northwestern part of Korea, consists of nearly 300 ravines and sterile land with an incline of 45 degrees, but it has turned into a well-off locality. The history of its development is associated with the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's devoted efforts. It was in August Juche 43 (1954) that President Kim Il Sung visited the county for the first time to acquaint himself with livelihood of its inhabitants. He toured Yaksu-ri and other parts of the county to know its situation and climbed mountain ranges to study its resources before discussing with inhabitants all night about the way to turn the county into a well-off land. Since then he had continued his journey of field guidance to Changsong County to improve its inhabitants' livelihood. In one summer, an official of the county prepared a pair of straw sandals for the President who was walking the raw farm road of the county for nearly one month. He accepted the straw sandals, saying that they are the best on stony roads. Saying that he should continue to walk rugged roads in order to make the people better off, he called upon the county inhabitants to rise up in a drive for turning all mountains in the county into mountains of treasures and the county into a model of well-off locality to be followed by other counties. |
