Founded on October 1, Juche 42 (1953) by President Kim Il Sung, the university has developed into a comprehensive center for training talented teachers over the last sixty years.

In this period it has seen the four times increase in the number of faculties and chairs, seven times rise in that of teachers and 7.3 times growth in the scale of buildings.

It has produced a number of school and kindergarten teachers and officials lots of whom became DPRK Heroes or Labor Heroes, competent scientists and technicians, professors and doctors.

The university was visited by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il several times during which they indicated the path to be followed by it.

It has faculties such as revolutionary history, linguistics, mathematics, physics, biochemistry, education and foreign languages.
