The U.S. secretary of Defense and the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff spread story that north Korea's ballistic missile poses a "threat" to the security of not only the Korean Peninsula but also Northeast Asia. They went the lengths of blustering that they want to develop the theatre missile defense system with the south Korean puppet forces and improve the defense capability by deploying spy technical equipment in Japan.

Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a commentary dismisses the story of "threat" from the DPRK touted by the U.S. as sheer sophism which can convince no one.

Looking back on history, the U.S. used to beef up its aggressor forces in south Korea and its vicinity and make war drumbeats under the pretext of "threat" from the DPRK, the commentary notes, and goes on:

What is obvious is that the U.S. does not want peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. What is required by the U.S. is the escalation of confrontation and tension.

It is hard for the U.S. to build up the U.S.-Japan-south Korea triangular military alliance in a peaceful environment because it can never convince the world.

Hence, the U.S. is working hard to build a world public opinion about the DPRK's "increased threat" and fan up the atmosphere of confrontation with the DPRK in a bid to create a favorable environment for knocking into shape the alliance.

The sinister aim sought by the U.S. in creating the U.S.-Japan-south Korea military alliance is to maintain its military edge in Northeast Asia on its basis.

The U.S. is deeply concerned about the economic development and bolstering up of self-defense capability in the Northeast Asian countries and their increasing influence on the Asia-Pacific region.

It is the U.S. calculation that it cannot dominate the Asia-Pacific region unless it puts Northeast Asia under its military control.
