The championship started on October 23, bringing together at least 100 players from 18 countries including the DPRK, China, Iran, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.

DPRK wrestler Yun Won Chol in the greco-roman 55 kg category defeated his Chinese rival 8:0 in 1 min. and 30 sec. of the first round in the preliminary match, his Kazakh rival 6:1 in the first round of the quarter finals and his Pakistani rival 7:0 in the first round of the semifinals.

He trounced the Iranian player 7:0 in the first round of the finals by displaying high technique in strong spirit and bagged a gold medal.
