Kim Un Ju, DPRK's Weightlifter

| Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- Kim Un Ju of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea finished first in the women's 75 kg category weightlifting in the 6th East Asian Games by snatching 113 kg and jerking 153 kg, 266 kg in total. She distinguished herself in the World Weightlifting Championship and the Asian Weightlifting Championship held in 2011. She clinched three gold medals in the 2013 Asian Cup and Interclub Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championship held in Pyongyang in September this year. Active in the Kigwancha Sports Team, she renewed the national record seven times in local tournaments including the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Games and the DPRK Championships. As a winner of the title of the Merited Athlete, she was selected as one of the ten best sportspersons of the country in 2011. Beginning to learn weightlifting at her age of 11, she became an up-and-coming weightlifter two years later. Choe Nong Gyun, her coach, told KCNA that she has already reached the world record in training. |
