Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- A north-south joint Buddhist mass praying for Korea's reunification and having Nirvana service took place at Ryongthong Temple in Kaesong of the DPRK on Thursday to mark the 8th anniversary of the restoration of the temple and the 912th anniversary of Buddhist priest Uichon's attainment of divine enlightenment. Present there from the north side were office bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea and priests and Buddhists of the temple and from the south side priests and Buddhists of Chonthae Order. A Buddhist ritual was made to be followed by speeches. Then a north-south joint Buddhist address praying for national reunification was read out. Speakers said that Ryongthong Temple was successfully restored by the efforts of the Buddhists in the north and the south but has failed to play a due role as a seminary for reunification. The distrust and confrontation between the north and the south are escalating, precious successes made in the June 15 era were brought to naught and unpardonable acts persist in south Korea, they added. They called upon Buddhists in the north and the south to work hard as the Buddhist saints for reunification to improve the inter-Korean relations and achieve the nation's reconciliation and unity. A joint address expressed the firm resolution of the Buddhists in the north and the south to unite in Dharma-minded concord and turn out as one in practical actions to defuse the danger of war and achieve durable peace and reunification of the country as indicated by the north-south joint declarations. |
