Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- There is Mt. Chilbo, called "Mt. Kumgang in North Hamgyong Province" for its superb scenic beauties, on the southern coast of the province, the DPRK. The mountain is divided into three areas, Outer Chilbo, Inner Chilbo and Sea Chilbo. The mountain tells about a legend well known among the local people. Once upon a time, fairies from heaven used to have bath in small ponds of Unson Valley in Outer Chilbo. Not far from the valley, a young man called Ji Un Song were living with his blind mother. One day, when Ji was dressing a cod, he happened to discover a heptangular mirror in it. Upon hearing the story how he got the mirror, his blind mother told him to keep it well for its owner. A few months later, Ji came to meet a girl sobbing near a pond while picking edible herbs in the valley. The girl told him she was a fairy from heaven and lost her heptangular mirror when having a bath in the pond. Ji handed the mirror back to the fairy with the story how he got it, so that the fairy could fly up to heaven. The king of heaven highly praised the fairy for getting back the mirror and presented her a necklace decorated with seven jewels. As the days go by, however, the fairy had become languished with love for Ji. No one knew the reason, so the king had a conversation with her to get to know that she was sighing for a young farmer called Ji. After receiving the allowance from the king, the fairy flew down to the valley with her mirror and necklace, with which she restored the sight to Ji's blind mother. After marrying Ji, the fairy renamed herself Chilbo (seven jewels) Fairy. |
