Anti-"Government" Actions in Seoul

Pyongyang, November 12 (KCNA) -- 50,000 workers affiliated to the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) staged actions in Seoul against the traitorous rule of the puppet regime. There took place the "2013 national meeting of workers" at Seoul Square on Sunday. Kim Myong Hwan, chairman of the Railway Workers' Union, accused Park Geun Hye of reneging on her election commitments and resorting to the moves to privatize railway, electricity, gas services, etc. He charged that Park is the arch criminal violating democracy and bringing the people's living to destitution as she has brought everything back to the period of "yusin." Kwon Jae Dong, chief of the Seoul Regional Headquarters of the Government Employees' Union, noted that the authorities' on-going suppression of the union is aimed at diverting elsewhere the people's growing criticism of the Intelligence Services' illegal interference in the election, adding that with no desperate effort can they conceal the truth. So Jung Hyon, a teacher affiliated to the North Chungchong Provincial Branch of the Teachers' Union, stressed that the union is expanding itself as the days go by despite the Park regime's crackdown upon it, adding that the union will not halt its actions for genuine education. Ri Kwang Sok, chairman of the National Federation of Peasants Associations, declared that the peasants would stand against Park's dictatorship as she is reviving the "yusin" dictatorship. Sin Sung Chol, chairman of the KCTU, warned that in case the "government" continues infringing upon the basic rights of the workers, the union would intensify its actions against the rule centered on big businesses. He called on all the progressive forces to unite as one and turn out in the actions against the regime's acts of violating democracy, reneging on the election commitments and suppressing the workers. At the end of the meeting the participants staged a demonstration. That day, least 10 000 policemen of 120 companies were mobilized to put down the demonstration, firing water cannons. An action calling for abolishing part-time jobs was staged in Youido on Saturday. |
