Martyr Jon Thae Il Remembered by Koreans in U.S.
Pyongyang, November 18 (KCNA) -- Koreans in the U.S. held a memorial service in Los Angeles on Nov. 13, 43 years since martyr Jon Thae Il committed self-immolation in protest against the dictatorial regime of south Korea.

At the service speakers said Jon's self-immolation on Nov. 13, 1970 was like a bullet fired by him at Park Chung-Hee in protest against the "yusin" dictatorship.

This shocking event led to the end of the Park Chung-Hee's military dictatorial regime and afterwards the labor movement has steadily grown in strength, they noted.

Jon's fighting spirit always remains recorded in the history of the south Korean labor movement and the movement for democracy, they stressed.
