Present there were scientists, technicians, and teachers in the field of nature conservation.

Jong Yong Nam, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Nature Conservation Union of Korea, made a speech.

He said that Kim Jong Il made public the work in October, Juche 92 (2003), indicating the orientation and ways to be held fast to in developing the nation's science and technology in the new century.

He noted that the work serves as important guidelines providing firm scientific and technological guarantee for the building of a rich and powerful nation.

Kim Jong Il's idea of attaching importance to science and technology and his feats are further glorified thanks to Marshal Kim Jong Un, he noted.

He called for conserving the natural resources of the country and increasing them under the leadership of the party.

The participants heard more than 180 valuable papers presented by officials, scientists, technicians and experts in the fields of forestry, flora, afforestation and aquatic resources and the conservation of land, water and underground resources.

A paper on creating forests of firewood on hills and the other on reusing the residue from ore dressing plants were highly appreciated for their practical significance.

Also drawing attention of the participants were a paper on the development of a system for a real time adjustment of water flow for the optimization of water resources at hydro-power stations and its application and another paper on the diversity of fauna in the area of Mt. Paektu.
