Legends about Mt. Kumgang (9)
Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- There is a fantastic rock on the mid-slope of Sejon Peak in Mt. Kumgang, which has been called "Rabbit Rock". The upper part of the rock reminds everyone of the head of a rabbit and its lower part the body of a tortoise.

The rock tells about a legend well known among the local people.

The superb scenery of Mt. Kumgang drove all those in the heaven to unanimously saying they would have nothing to envy if they spent even a moment in the mountain during their lifetime. A rabbit, which was living in the moon while pounding herbs in a mortar, was one of them.

One day, it left the heaven for the mountain under the approval of the king. The king instructed it to return before the fifteenth night of the month.

When the rabbit reached Sejon Peak in Mt. Kumgang, it was fascinated by the breathtaking landscape of the mountain.

Infatuated by the scenery, it could neither remember the instruction of the king nor take a step and thus violated the king's instruction.

Angered by the rabbit's behavior, the king sentenced it to being a tortoise.

From the very moment, the rabbit was gradually turned into a tortoise and finally into the rock of the present time.
