Pyongyang, November 25 (KCNA) -- The 31st national meeting of the movement for supporting Korea's reunification took place in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan on November 17.

Present there were Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, members of the committee, members of the executive committee of the national meeting and representatives from the friendship organizations in different parts of Japan.

Present there on invitation were Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and other officials of Chongryon.

Introduced there were messages from the Korean Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Korean Friendship Association headquartered in Spain, the British Friendship Society with Korea and the Philippines Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification in the Korean Peninsula.

Kenji Mizutani, secretary general of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, in his keynote address denounced the Japanese government for its evermore undisguised discrimination and suppression of the Koreans in Japan and called on the Japanese people to make a tangible contribution to the peaceful reunification of Korea and the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the DPRK.

Then followed a lecture on the subject "For the conclusion of peace agreement and normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the DPRK." Speakers laid bare the hostile acts of Japan and the south Korean regime against the DPRK and the Seoul authorities' unreasonable campaign to stifle a progressive political party and stressed the need to improve the north-south relations and the relations between Japan and the DPRK.

The meeting denounced the south Korean authorities for their fascist action against the progressive forces and adopted an appeal demanding the U.S. replace the Korean Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty and Japan lift the sanctions against the DPRK.
