Legends about Mt. Kumgang (11)

Pyongyang, November 26 (KCNA) -- In Sea Kumgang, part of scenic Mt. Kumgang, there are two pillar-shaped rocks surrounded by several grotesque rocks redolent of earthworm, carp, lion, etc. Called Pubu (couple) Rocks, the pillar-shaped rocks tell about a legend well known among the local people. Once upon a time, a young couple settled down by Sea Kumgang. They eked out their living on herbs and seafood, sharing the bitters and sweets. Though distressed by poverty, they enjoyed their life optimistically, helping each other. In evenings, the sounds of flute and Korean lute played by them echoed through Sea Kumgang. The melodies were so enchanting that villagers gathered in the couple's straw-thatched house to enjoy them. It was told that even fairies danced to the melodies. One day, the couple went to the sea to catch ormer but could not return, engulfed in the sea. Later, the villagers began to call the two pillar-shaped rocks by the sea "Pubu Rocks" in memory of the couple. |
