Suppression of Protesters against Naval Base under Fire
Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- The Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society in south Korea released a statement on Nov. 27 denouncing the puppet authorities for suppressing protesters against the building of a naval base on Jeju Island.

There is continued crackdown on Kangjong villagers and peace activists who protest against the building of the base, the statement said.

650 persons have been walked away and more than 200 persons were put on trial since 2010 for the mere reason that they had been opposed to the building of the base, and fine levied on them amounts to hundreds of millions of won, they noted, and went on:

Shortly ago, the Jeju District Court inflicted heavy penalties on Kangjong villagers and peace activists, an apparent indication of human rights abuses.

The regime should halt the suppression of the activists and set free the detainees.
