Sitaram Yechury, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), was elected chairman of the national committee.

The committee decided to hold diverse political and cultural events including a remembrance meeting on the occasion of the second anniversary of demise of Kim Jong Il.
