Present there were Ho Jong Man, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean residents in Japan (Chongryon), other officials of Chongryon and compatriots.

The participants paid silent tribute to Kim Jong Il.

Ho Jong Man said in the memorial address that over the last two years which the nation spent with ardent longing and profound reverence, looking up to the portraits of smiling Kim Jong Il the Koreans in Japan together with all other compatriots more keenly realized what peerlessly great man they held in high esteem.

He went on:

Kim Jong Il had worked heart and soul to glorify the country, being responsible of its destiny, since he was born in Mt. Paektu.

His life was the one of a peerless patriot, a great revolutionary and a tender-hearted father of the people who lived in the decisive battle fields for defending the country and the nation and passed away in a running train on a journey to bring prosperity to the people.

Ho called on the Koreans in Japan to glorify the revolutionary career of Kim Jong Il and undying exploits he performed in the movement of Koreans in Japan for ages, remaining true to the leadership of supreme leader Kim Jong Un.

Speeches were made by Kim Cha Dol, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the Korean Youth League in Japan, Kang Chu Ryon, chairwoman of the Central Standing Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan, Ri Jong Man, managing director of the Standing Council of the Korean Federation of Workers in Commerce in Japan, Ri Yong Hun, chairman of the Kanagawa Prefectural Headquarters of Chongryon on behalf of Koreans of all social standings to vow their allegiance.

Memorial services took place at the headquarters of Chongryon in every area including Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Aichi, Ibaraki, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Hokkaido on the same day.
