S. Korean Authorities' Crackdown on Workers under Fire
Pyongyang, December 30 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet authorities, keen on suppressing the strike of the Railway Trade Union, forcibly searched the headquarters of the Confederation of Trade Unions a few days ago to arrest core members of the union.

Rodong Sinmun Monday in a commentary terms this a shuddering act of revealing the fascist and unpopular nature of the conservative regime.

The regime even insulted the struggle of the railway workers against the privatization of the railway service as an effort for "meeting their own interests", the commentary says, and goes on:

This is an intolerable mockery of the people desirous of defending the right to existence.

The barbarous suppression brought to light again the unpopular nature of the present ruling forces bent on maintenance of power while reigning over the people and resorting to dictatorship and repressive policy.

The day after the police search of the headquarters of the confederation ended in failure, the puppet chief executive at a meeting of chief secretaries cried out for "abiding by principle in taking strong counteraction" against the strike of railway workers. This is not just a reprisal act. Lurking behind this is the sinister intention to thwart the workers' struggle against the conservative authorities and quench the anti-"government" spirit mounting throughout south Korea.

If the present situation is connived at, the south Koreans' struggle for democracy and right to existence will be totally checked and it will become difficult for them to save even their own lives in the face of the arbitrary practices of the dictatorial forces.

The right to existence can be won only through unflinching struggle.
