Strong Sports Enthusiasm Widespread in DPRK This Year
Pyongyang, December 31 (KCNA) -- Many sporting events have been held in the DPRK this year under the far-reaching plan of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) for turning the country into a sports power.

Supreme leader Kim Jong Un watched some of them to fan up sports enthusiasm throughout the country.

He watched the sports contest of health workers held to mark May Day and the final matches in popular sports events for the National Sports Contest of Provincial Teams at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on October 10, the 68th anniversary of the WPK. And he stressed the need to organize such contest of provincial teams on a regular basis and direct efforts to traditional sports games so that everyone can make positive contribution to labor and defence in good health.

His energetic guidance brought a hot wind of sports activities all over the country.

A table-tennis contest of officials of commissions, ministries and national institutions was held at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium in January.

Then there took place a national sports contest of workers, a national basketball contest of agricultural workers to celebrate the Day of the Sun and other sports events which fully displayed the validity and vitality of the WPK's policy of popularizing physical culture and sports and making them part of daily life.

Volleyball and basketball courts and sports parks across the country have always been crowded with people.

Many people, including schoolchildren, have visited the Rungna People's Sports Park, built in May, to play various sporting games.

September witnessed the 11th Grand Bull Prize National Ssirum Contest on picturesque Rungna Islet.

Such mass sports activities are indicative of the Korean people's strong will to turn the country into a sports power.
