Rodong Sinmun Calls for Making Fresh Headway in Reunification Movement
Pyongyang, January 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun on Monday says in an article that all Koreans in the north, south and overseas should surely make fresh headway in the reunification movement this year by invariably making advance along the road indicated by the line of one Korea, the general principle of reunification for all Koreans, which was set forth by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.

In order to settle the reunification issue it is necessary to reject foreign forces, hold fast to the standpoint of By Our Nation Itself and make a dynamic struggle for defending the security and peace of the nation, the article notes, and goes on:

It is impossible to achieve reconciliation and unity of the nation without defusing the confrontation between the north and south.

We cannot remain a passive onlooker any longer to the painful situation in which the Koreans live, divided by foreign forces.

We should put an end to the era of confrontation in which one side slings mud at and shows hostility to the other.

The confrontation between the north and south is harmful to solving the reunification issue, hinders the reconciliation and unity between compatriots and leads the north-south relations to the worst catastrophe. This will serve merely as an occasion for the forces that are undesirous of seeing one Korea to fish in troubled waters.

Manifold difficulties and trials are lying in the way of national reunification, but our nation is convinced of greeting the day of independent reunification, peace and prosperity without fail.

All Koreans in the north, south and overseas should dynamically wage a nationwide reunification movement by uniting close in the idea of By Our Nation Itself, the true banner of patriotism.

By doing so, we should open up a new phase of independent reunification, peace and prosperity this year at any cost and make the desire for reunification and patriotism grow stronger across the country.
