Upon receiving his New Year Address, the people of the DPRK are fully determined to make greater achievements this year as they brought about epochal successes last year.

The present general onward march requires them to bring about a fresh upsurge in all economic sectors. The march is an extension of historical progress of the Korean revolution under the uplifted banner of constant innovation and continued progress.

The Korean people had made a history of advance by leaps and bounds, creating new speeds of progress in different annals of the revolution.

They built up a socialist industrial nation on this land, which had once been reduced to ashes during the Korean War (1950-1953), by creating the Pyongyang Speed, Vinalon Speed and Chollima Speed after the war.

In the 1970s, they created the new Chollima Speed in order to achieve a rapid growth of national economy, unprecedented in the history of the world industry. And they ushered in a heyday of great socialist construction through the movement for creating the speed of the 1980s.

Under the energetic guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea and leader Kim Jong Il, they raised fierce winds of fresh advance in the revolutionary soldier spirit and the Kanggye spirit during the Arduous March, the forced march.

In the spirits of Songgang Torch and Ranam Torch, they made a breakthrough in revitalizing the national economy. The Thaechon Spirit, Kangson Torch, Huichon Speed and Flames lit by South Hamgyong Province served as a driving power to bring about the heyday of national prosperity.

During the days of creating the "Speed on Masik Pass", especially, they have achieved noteworthy successes in building an economic power and improving the people's standard of living. The construction of monumental edifices in the era of the WPK, including Unha Scientists Street and Munsu Water Park, was a remarkable demonstration of the spirit of the DPRK.

Now all the service personnel and people of the DPRK are full of patriotic enthusiasm to make fresher and faster upsurge by working miracles and creating a new speed of advance. Thanks to their enthusiasm, a thriving socialist country will surely make its appearance on this land.
