Supreme leader Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address underscored the need for the light industry factories to step up their modernization and introduction of CNC technology into their production lines and increase the proportion of locally-available raw and other materials, in order to put production on a normal footing.

Upon receiving his New Year Address, important guidelines to make a new leap forward in production, the officials and workers in the field of light industry are fully determined to produce more goods of high quality this year.

Last year, they built or technologically updated a number of light industrial establishments including the Pyongyang Essential Foodstuff Factory and Phyongsong Synthetic Leather Factory, thus further consolidating the material and technical foundations for improving the people's standard of living, true to the intention of the Workers' Party of Korea that defined light industry as a major thrust in the nation's economy.

Through the movement for developing new goods and the campaign for increased production, many factories overfulfilled their yearly assignments on all indices.

They have also pushed ahead with the work to increase the ratio of localization in production.

Textile machine factories have succeeded in making different kinds of spare parts for flexible rapier looms, while the shoe-making industrial sector in developing vinyl chloride elastomer.

Last year, Kim Jong Un attended the national meeting of light industrial workers to lay a new milestone for developing light industry and made field guidance to the Kim Jong Suk Pyongyang Textile Mill and different foodstuff factories to inspire them to effect a new surge and innovations in production.

All the successes achieved last year convinced the light industrial workers that this year they can bring about a epoch-making change in improving the people's standard of living if they carry out the tasks set forth by Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address.
