The struggle for peace is a patriotic one of justice for protecting the base of the Korean nation's life as well as a common cause of the nation for its security, independent development and prosperity.

Peace is more valuable for the Korean nation that has lived in constant danger of a war, suffering from outsiders' threat of aggression for decades. Without defending peace, is it impossible to realize the peaceful reunification of the country and achieve the development and prosperity common to the nation through reconciliation and cooperation.

Korea's reunification means reconnecting the broken vein of the nation and achieving national harmony, and a war can never bring any progress in settling the reunification issue.

It is clear to everyone that any accidental conflict between the north and the south of Korea may lead to an all-out war as the two sides stand in military confrontation with each other. Should another war break out on the Korean Peninsula, it will result in a deadly nuclear catastrophe, reducing south Korea to ashes, and the United States will never be safe.

Peaceful environment is also needed for smooth progress in the reconciliation and cooperation projects between the north and the south of Korea, as taught by the history of inter-Korean relations and national reunification movement.

All Koreans should turn out in a nationwide struggle for peace, irrespective of party affiliation and political grouping, and decisively check any confrontation and war moves of the bellicose forces at home and abroad, mindful that the destiny of the nation depends on protecting peace.
