The sports contest will take place in Pyongyang City, Phyongsong City of South Phyongan Province and Sariwon City of North Hwanghae Province from January to August and bring together about 10,000 schoolchildren across the country.

The players will compete in 17 events such as basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, Taekwon-Do, Korean wrestling, divided into groups of senior secondary school, junior secondary school and primary school.

Jon Yong Nam, chairman of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, made an opening speech.

Then followed a Taekwon-Do demonstration by schoolchildren.

Present at the opening ceremony were Ri Yong Su, department director of the C.C., of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ri Jong Mu, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, officials concerned, officials of the youth league and schoolchildren.
