The contest will last till Feb. 11 at the stadiums of Kim Il Sung University and Kim Chaek University of Technology, the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, the Taekwon-Do Hall and other places. Players will compete in matches of volleyball, table tennis, basketball, Taekwon-Do and tug of war.

Present at the opening ceremony were Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier and chairman of the State Planning Commission, Ri Yong Su, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Hyon Sang Ju, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, Ri Jong Mu, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, and officials and players of ministries and national institutions.

Ro Tu Chol made an opening address.

He said that supreme leader Kim Jong Un made sure that a strong wind of conducting sports swept across the country and the Maskiryong Ski Resort, Munsu Water Park, Mirim Riding Club and other world-class sports and cultural bases were built, showing warm loving care for the development of mass sports.

The ceremony was followed by preliminary matches of table tennis and volleyball.
