Halt to Military Drills, Key for Improved Inter-Korean Relations
|
|
Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- The National Defence Commission (NDC) of the DPRK on January 16 made crucial proposals to the south Korean authorities on taking a practical measure of halting all military hostile acts against each other. Halt to all military hostile acts will become a starting point in improving the inter-Korean relations. For over half a century, a cycle of antagonism and military confrontation has been repeated in the Korean Peninsula. And the peninsula has always been prevailed with the touch-and-go situation that even a slightest conflict may lead to an all-out war. If an all-out war, a nuclear war, breaks out on the peninsula, no Korean can escape from the nuclear disaster. The national division that lasts over half a century gives everyone a lesson that aggravation of confrontation between the north and the south would result in continuance of division and tragic disaster of war. The confrontation between the north and the south serves merely as a chance for the forces, undesirous of seeing reunified Korea, to fish in troubled waters. And it is as clear as noonday that the nuclear war exercises, scheduled from late February in south Korea, will drive the situation on the Korean Peninsula to a brink of war. If the south Korean authorities value the nation's desire for cohesion and harmony, they should stop clinging to war gambles against the fellow countrymen. They should show their will for practical action in response to the DPRK's crucial proposals by making a bold decision to stop waging provocative Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military drills. Only then, peace can settle down on the Korean Peninsula with circumstances favorable for improving the inter-Korean relations. |
