KCNA Commentary on U.S. Attitude to DPRK's Crucial Proposals
|

Pyongyang, January 24 (KCNA) -- For the crucial proposals advanced by the National Defence Commission of the DPRK on Jan. 16, the United States is impudently moving to shift the blame for the tension of the Korean Peninsula onto the DPRK. The spokespersons for the White House and the U.S. Department of State declared that the U.S. stand towards the DPRK remains unchanged, saying "the ball remains in their court and they haven't taken any steps to change the views of the international community on this issue." This represents the U.S. attitude towards the proposals made by the DPRK, which call for improved inter-Korean relations in the spirit of By Our Nation Itself to cope with the grave situation created on the Korean Peninsula. The current situation shows that any accidental skirmish may lead to an all-out war immediately. The proposals carry practical measures for averting a disastrous war, which may give big powers a chance to fish in troubled waters but entail extermination of the Korean nation, and defending the nation's security and peace. It is psychology of the Obama administration to view the proposals as a striking blow to the implementation of its Asian strategy, which is to secure its interests through continued escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula. Therefore, the U.S. is now intensifying the anti-DPRK war moves on the plea of coping with "contingency" and "possible provocation". In recent months, the secretaries of State and Defense and other senior U.S. officials met south Korean counterparts to discuss launching joint military exercises. The U.S., which reinforced its armed forces in south Korea last year, has decided to deploy a mechanized infantry unit armed with 40 latest tanks and 40 armored cars in the area near the Military Demarcation Line of Korea soon. And it announced that Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises would be staged from late February to late April. It is no longer a secret that over 60 percent of the U.S. reconnaissance activities by nuclear-powered strategic submarines are being conducted in the Pacific, including waters around the Korean Peninsula, with some of the submarines put on a red alert. Though military spending drastically decreased due to the expenditure cutback, the U.S. is constantly reinforcing its forces in the peninsula, which has come under spotlight of the international community. Securing peace on the Korean Peninsula is an urgent task of the world politics as it is directly related to ensuring stability in Northeast Asia. On one hand, the U.S. is attempting to deceive the world public with such petty tricks as allegation that "the ball remains in their court" and, on the other hand, it is planning to stage dangerous war gambles against the DPRK. It is none other than the U.S. that wrecks peace and stability in Northeast Asia and the rest of the world. It is a daydream for the U.S. to seek its strategic interests by aggravating the situation regularly on the Korean Peninsula. |
