A central group for the survey of mineral resources has recently found deposits of such valuable minerals as coal, iron and nonferrous metals in South Phyongan Province and South Hamgyong Province.

In South Phyongan Province, coal deposits were discovered in the course of systematizing geological structure and prospecting fold mountain ranges and single strata in northern coal fields.

And nonferrous ore body and several veins were found out in the areas of Nyongwon and Hoechang.

In South Hamgyong Province, analysis of hundreds of samples of minerals led to the discovery of rich deposit of schist iron ore deep in the area.

Meanwhile, hundreds of millions of tons of Kumgang medical stone deposits were secured through a nationwide survey.
