The statement said:

As the NDC of the DPRK said in the open letter, the history of the territorial division brought unspeakable disaster and sufferings to the Korean nation. The foreign forces are to blame for this.

Supreme leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address set forth the reasonable and principled issues arising in accelerating the national reunification in order to put an end to the history of the territorial and national division.

The NDC of the DPRK sent a crucial proposal on January 16 and the open letter on Jan. 23 to the south Korean authorities as part of its efforts to open a wide avenue for improving the north-south relations.

The DPRK also took a unilateral measure of halting the acts of slandering south Korea.

We see that it is very important to take a decision to stop all the military hostile acts on the Korean Peninsula.

We contend that the independent reunification of Korea and peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula can be achieved only when the north-south relations are improved.

If the crisis prevailing on the Korean Peninsula is not settled, it will reach an uncontrolled phase and cause dangerous international confrontation.
