Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The International Friendship Botanical House of the Central Botanical Garden in the DPRK has widely spread ornamental plants. Among those ornamental plants are Begonia hiemalis cv. and Bougainvillea spectabilis. They are under cultivation at greenhouses across the country. In warm season the plants can be seen in parks and streets as well as houses. Begonia hiemalis cv. is an ever-green ornamental flowering plant. It is 20-30 cm high and has oval leaves, with blossoms of different colors--red, yellow, white and light pink--according to its species. The propagation of this plant is based on cuttage and tissue culture. Bougainvillea spectabilis is a shrub belonging to the family of four-o'clock. Its bracts look like petals and have different colors according to species. New species of the plant are now being cultivated. The ornamental plants are gifts presented to leader Kim Jong Il by Mototeru Kamo, a famous botanist and horticulturist of Japan. |
