5th National Pencil Drawing Festival Opens
Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- The 5th National Pencil Drawing Festival opened with due ceremony at the National Theatre on Monday to celebrate the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.

Presented to the festival were at least 350 drawings created by service personnel and painters, people from all walks of life and school youth and children across the country.

Placed in the centre of the venue of the festival are paintings "Visiting Fields of Bumper Crops" and "Happy Soldiers Visited by the General," which depict President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

Among those paintings presented to the festival are paintings "Sharp-cut Cliff on Mt. Osong, Mountain of Songun" and "Morning in February," which deal with the undying feats of Kim Jong Il, who defended the socialist country under the uplifted banner of Songun and laid the eternal foundation for the prosperity of Juche Korea.

Paintings "Along the Track of Love", "Delight of Making Big Fish Hauls" and "Joy in July" represent the happy life the Korean people are enjoying under the loving care of Marshal Kim Jong Un.

Also among those paintings are works reflecting the drive of the service personnel and people of the DPRK to bring earlier a final victory in building a thriving nation under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.

Present at the opening ceremony were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Jin, vice-premier of the Cabinet, officials of working people's organizations, officials concerned, painters, working people and school youth and children.

Minister of Culture Pak Chun Nam made an opening address.
