DPRK Delegate Demands for Dismantlement of "UN Command"

Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- The DPRK delegate made a speech at a meeting of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization on Feb. 18. He requested the special committee to pay attention to the issue of dismantling the illegal "UN Command" in south Korea and take a practical measure. It stands out as an urgent matter which brooks no further delay to dismantle the "UN Command" in the light of the trust the international community reposes in the UN and in order to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula, he said, and went on: Thanks to the initiative efforts of the DPRK, a north-south high-level contact took place and good opportunities are being created to put an end to the vicious cycle of confrontation and improve the relations. What stuns the international community in this course is the U.S. attitude toward peace and security on the Korean peninsula. Far from welcoming and encouraging dialogue at a time when delegates from the north and the south were holding a candid dialogue, the U.S. let formations of B-52s fly into the sky above the Korean peninsula. Even now it is mulling staging large-scale Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises targeting the DPRK. The U.S. joint military drills are provocative and aggressive ones in their scale and nature from A to Z. If the U.S. kicks off joint military drills at any cost, failing to respect the hard-won positive changes in the inter-Korean relations, it will be censured by the international community as it will only reveal by itself that it is the very one keeping the Korean nation divided and bringing disasters of a nuclear war to the Korean peninsula. |
