Jong won the 57 kilogram weight class at the International Senior FS Wrestling Tournament "Takhti Cup" by defeating Iranian, Japanese, Georgian, Mongolian and Kazak rivals.

He also took home gold at the 28th World Military Men's Wrestling Championship held in October last year.

Jong began wrestling at the Juvenile Sports School in Cholsan County, North Phyongan Province at the age of 11.

He proved successful at domestic tournaments, including the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Games, attracting attention of wrestling experts.

Ri Myong Hak, a wrestling coach, told KCNA that Jong has a forte for leg hold.

Jong said it is his goal to win laurels at Olympic Games.
