More than 40,000 people attended the rally held at the plaza of the Seoul City Office. The participants said that the one-year office of the present regime witnessed the days which led to breach of commitments, destitution of people's livelihood and obliteration of democracy, adding that people from all walks of life, including workers, peasants, the poor, merchants, students and women, are turning out in the actions, unable to remain a passive onlooker to this. The chairperson of the Public Healthcare Trade Union, speaking at the rally, condemned the present regime for pushing ahead with its policy of privatizing healthcare institutions by deceiving the people. The acting chairperson of the Railway Trade Union expressed the will to meet the demands of workers through actions, saying the regime is resorting to the privatization of the railways. The executive chairperson of the Measure Committee to Denounce the Intelligence Service's Fabrication of Plotted Rebellion and Suppression under the Pretext of Security criticized the authorities of declaring those involved in the election rigging not guilty and those related to the case of the plotted rebellion guilty with no evidence. The permanent co-representative of the Solidarity for Abolishing the Discrimination of the Disabled Persons vented his rage on the regime's deceptive policy for welfare. Then a resolution was read out. The resolution said that they will continue their actions against the illegal election rigging of the power organs and the moves to stamp out democracy. It noted that they will become more vocal urging the resignation of the chief executive in case the authorities fail to accept the demand of the people. At the end of the rally, the participants staged a demonstration. They gathered at the plaza of the city office again and held a candlelight rally. |
