Papers Call for Turning Out in Spring Tree Planting
Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- Today marks the Tree-planting Day.

President Kim Il Sung climbed Moran Hill together with leader Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk long ago and unrolled a grandiose plan to turn the country into a picturesque people's paradise by planting many trees in mountains and fields.

The instructions given by the President that significant day provided a historic occasion in kindling a torch for tree planting. As a result, the spring general mobilization for land management starts in the DPRK with tree planting.

Papers of the DPRK Sunday editorially call on all people to turn out in the tree-planting campaign this day.

Rodong Sinmun says that the tree-planting movement is a noble patriotic work for people's happiness and the prosperity of the country and nature-remaking work of lasting significance.

It goes on:

Timber is needed for stepping up the building of modern factories, cities and rural villages. There should be also timber to mine more coal and minerals and to develop agriculture.

Thick forests are required for preventing natural disasters and making air clean and a lot of trees for protecting land.

We should turn out in the spring tree-planting drive to creditably fulfill our duty as citizens of the DPRK, bearing deep in mind the significance and importance of creating woodland.

Minju Joson calls on all officials and other people to fully display patriotic enthusiasm in the spring tree-planting campaign this significant year and thus make a positive contribution to turning the whole country into a thick woodland and greenery.
