A woman in her thirties attempted suicide together with two children in Iksan City, North Jolla Province on March 4, leaving behind a suicide note reading that they could not survive any longer. A little boy of them was reported to have died.

Another woman with her daughters also committed suicides on Feb. 27 as she was not able to pay various kinds of taxes.

Cases of suicides are taking place in various parts of south Korea including Kyonggi Province one after another with many south Koreans choosing death due to abject destitution, snowballing debts and miserable plight.

Kukmin Ilbo on March 4 in an article titled "Suicide, virus of death" said:

Suicide is a chronic disease in south Korea as incurable as cancer.

South Korea has topped the world list of suicide since 2003.
