The Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea has planned various works for a signal progress in the scientific and technological development this year.

According to Vice-Chairman Kye Hui Nam, activities will be conducted to solve the sci-tech problems arising in practice while generalizing the achievements made in scientific researches in recent years.

In particular, a big effort is being directed to the preparation for a national science and technology festival to be held to mark the Day of the Sun (April 15). The festival will serve as a momentum in accelerating the general onward march for the country's economic development and the improvement of the people's livelihood.

Scientific and technological exhibitions in provinces will be built splendidly to meet the demand of the present era, with the South Hwanghae Provincial Scientific and Technological Exhibition as a model.

And a work will be done to further strengthen the organic relationship and creative cooperation among economic sectors, between scientific and educational institutions and the industrial establishments and between scientists and technicians and working people.

There will be such on-site scientific and technological activities as a national science and technology prize contest, aimed to solve knotty problems in building power stations in tiers on the Chongchon River, and a national sci-tech presentation in the field of chemical industry, intended to put the fertilizer production by anthracite gasification on a normal basis.

Meanwhile, technical workshops will be organized in the capital city of Pyongyang, provinces, cities and counties of the country to launch a dynamic movement for winning the title of model unit of technical innovation and measures taken to ensure recommendation, judgment, consideration and appraisal of the model unit on a proper basis.
