Water-based Energy Production Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, March 22 (KCNA) -- Today is World Water Day. The United Nations designated this year's theme as "Water and Energy".

On this occasion diverse events took place in the DPRK.

The country, rich in water resources, strives to turn out much energy with use of hydro-power.

Many big and minor hydro-power stations have been built across the country, thanks to the far-reaching plan of President Kim Il Sung, who suggested depicting a hydro-power station in the national emblem, and to the energetic efforts of leader Kim Jong Il, who called for building hydro-power stations in an extensive way.

It is one of the major policies of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government to increase electric power production for economic growth and improvement of the people's living.

Under this policy, survey of water resources available was conducted on a nationwide scale and such large-scale hydro-power stations as power stations in tiers on the Chongchon River and Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station are now being built in the country.

Home-made high-efficiency generating equipment and water turbines have been applied to the already-built hydro-power stations while a project for new hydraulic structures is making headway.

The Korean people's efforts to solve the electricity shortage on the basis of water resources under the WPK guidance will bring good results.
