U.S. Army Chief of Staff's Remarks under Fire

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- Referring to the issue of the Korean Peninsula, the chief of Staff of the U.S. Army said the greatest concern was potentiality of the outbreak of a war by misjudgment and the U.S. should do its best to prevent the war. A commentary of Rodong Sinmun Sunday says in this regard: The U.S. warmongers talked volubly as if they were concerned about the detente on the Korean Peninsula, however they could not cover their aggressive nature as an arch criminal straining the tension. It is by no means accidental that the U.S. has staged Key Resolve and Foal Eagle military exercises every year irrespective of the trends of the situation. The U.S. has cultivated and completed its operational ability through ceaseless joint exercises to promptly introduce the Army, Navy and Air forces and the Marines in the mainland and abroad into the peninsula and mount a coordinated attack upon the DPRK with south Korea. The U.S. is testing the operational effect of the "joint plan for coping with the provocation of a local war" and "tailored deterrence strategy" worked out with the south Korean authorities in the exercises. This testifies to the fact that the exercises are offensive drills to invade the DPRK. The situation on the peninsula has been driven to the brink of war more than once, but it did not develop into a war. This was thanks to the DPRK's endurance. The DPRK will, in the future, too, keep its self-control and endurance to defend peace on the peninsula, but not overlook the provocation by the aggressors. |
