Jang Sung Op, Celebrated Korean Painter

Pyongyang, March 25 (KCNA) -- Among famous Korean painters was Jang Sung Op, who was active in the 19th century. Jang lived a poor life, but devoted himself to creating a peculiar art of painting characterized by vivid portrayal of subjects. His main subjects were animals, flowers and birds. One of his works is "Prunus Mume (Japanese apricot)" drawn on a ten-fold screen, successfully depicting an old tree with fine brush strokes. Jang in his work "Soldiers and Horses" gave a lifelike portrayal of galloping horses and riders. Included in his works are also paintings of still life. |
